Solo Recital
This will be the student’s first time to publicly perform by themselves. All students (except percussion) perform with a piano accompanist. This solo recital takes place at Lamar, immediately after school. Students are given short time slots for performance, and are only responsible for attending the event during their time slot, and do not have to stay the entire evening.
Family and friends are encouraged to come and see the kid’s first performance!

Practice Marathon
The Practice Marathon happens the day after the solo recital. Typically from 4pm-6:30pm, students meet in like instrument groups and kick-start the learning process of their spring festival/concert music. These small classes are taught by professionals hired by LMS to come in and work with the kids. This is a crucial time for the beginners in the learning process of their brand new music, as students who aren’t at this event will find themselves VERY behind during the next few weeks of class.

Beach Within Reach Festival
5501 Haltom Rd, Haltom City, TX 76137
The Beach Within Reach Music Festival gives our beginning band their first opportunity to perform as a full band for distinguished adjudicators. The festival is based out of North Richland Hills, and our performance location is Haltom High School. The reason this festival is called “Beach Within Reach” is because the students have the opportunity to go to Hurricane Harbor the next day. We have decided to attend PinStack in Plano instead. Parents are very encouraged to attend this festival to hear their kids perform.

Pinstack
6205 Dallas Pkwy, Plano, TX 75024
Due to our performance at the Beach Within Reach festival, we are given highly discounted tickets to go to Pinstack. The students have the opportunity to purchase a ticket and ride the bus with us there and back. This is not a required event, but a very fun one! We plan to stay from 10am-2pm.
Semester Exams
During the week of band semester exams, the students will play a couple proficiency examples to demonstrate what they’ve learned over the course of their beginner year. Typically, only one of the proficiencies are played live for Mr. Hanna/Duermeyer, and the rest are recorded for the directors to reference at a later date. The short performances act as a semester exam grade, and as a part of helping the directors determine which upper level band will best support the students development in 7th grade.
Spring Concert
Marcus High School
5707 Morriss Rd
Flower Mound, TX 75028
Our Spring Concert, much like the Holiday Concert, will feature the beginners performing music in a concert setting for friends and families. The Spring Concert will take place at the Marcus HS Auditorium, and will also include the two 7/8th grade bands. Students are expected to stay and listen to the rest of the concert before going home.
